As a Consultant in Renal Medicine, your skills, knowledge and experience are critical to the provision of patient care services, especially for those with complex medical problems involving multiple symptoms and conditions. Your calm, reassuring nature, combined with your wealth of knowledge and expertise, will help ensure patients feel safe in your hands.

You’ll spend the majority of your time working as part of a multidisciplinary team based in a renal unit, building relationships with and managing patients with conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney stones, polycystic kidney disease, auto-immune disorders, acute kidney injury (AKI), and where AKI is part of a multi-system failure, for example from septicaemia.

 

Qualifications, experience and key skills needed for Renal Medicine jobs

  • MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) or equivalent
  • A two-year foundation programme of general training
  • Specialist training in renal medicine
  • 6 months’ NHS experience within the last 3 years
