Main Duties/Responsibilities

As a General Adult Psychiatry Consultant with Aneurin Bevan Health Board you will be the lead clinician in managing the inpatient pathways for adult of a working age in the City of Newport. Adferiad Ward is a 22 bedded acute unit which ordinarily receives admissions from Newport and Lower Monmouthshire. As the Responsible Clinician for all Newport inpatients (18 beds), you will be part of a well-established and highly skilled multidisciplinary team motivated to create a safe and therapeutic environment. Based near to the ward, the post holder will be required to ensure all admissions are assessed and reviewed in a timely manner and relevant reports are completed within defined timescales, though there is no on-call commitment. The ward benefits from both staff grade and junior doctor provision in addition to a physician associate and ANP, with dedicated psychology and peer mentor input. Working closely with the local CMHTs and community consultant colleagues on discharge pathways is a key aspect of the role.



  • MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) or equivalent.
