Medacs Healthcare is currently looking for a Locum Consultant in Thoracic Radiology to join a large University NHS Trust based in Midlands.

Salary scale: £84,559 to £114,003 per annum depending on experience - 10 PA's

Contract type: permanent or fixed term for 12 months with the possibility of extension

We are seeking a full-time Locum Consultant Radiologist for a fixed term of 12 months with an interest in Thoracic/Cardiothoracic Imaging to support the ongoing expansion of radiology services, in particular within Cardiothoracic radiology.

They will be expected to collaborate with the thoracic and body radiologists across both sites to maintain and enhance a comprehensive emergency and elective thoracic imaging service, support the growth of the thoracic radiology service and facilitate the development of a comprehensive thoracic service for local and regional patients. The appointee will also be part of a wider team of 52 consultant radiologists providing sub-specialty and general radiological services across the Trust.

The Hospital prides itself on a large cancer service, diagnosing and treating bronchogenic cancer alongside being a tertiary referral centre for complex cases in both malignant and benign disease.

Main duties of the job

In addition to the main oncological based MDTs, we support a large number of clinico-radiological meetings involving clinicians, radiologists and advanced practitioners.

The post will have a commitment to support a range of diagnostic services such as CT, MRI, and plain film reporting and ultrasound examinations. The post holder will be expected to participate in under-graduate and post-graduate teaching and training and there will be opportunities for research.

The Trust is a Major Trauma Centre, the first Radiology Centre in the East Midlands Radiology Consortium and a Tertiary referral centre for Oncology, HPB, GI, Sarcoma, Urology and Thoracic services.

The post holder would join a dynamic team of 16 Body radiologists offering a comprehensive elective and emergency service for patients within the Nottinghamshire region and accepting referrals from peripheral hospitals as a Tertiary Centre. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop a subspecialty portfolio within the team through liaison with individual subspecialty groups.

This post will be a cross site appointment working at both sites. The timetable will be flexible to enable cross cover of essential services on a rota. The appointee will also be part of a wider team of 60 consultant radiologists providing sub-specialty and general radiological services across the Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Candidates must hold the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists or an equivalent qualification and must be registered with the GMC (ideally on the Specialist Register). Possession of a CCT (or equivalent) at the time of taking up the appointment would be desirable, but the department has a good track record of supporting candidates in successfully completing CESR qualification.

An appropriate period of specialist training and experience with advanced imaging techniques is desirable, as is a track record in research.

There is currently a 1:10 diagnostic on call rota and separate interventional body radiology (1:8). The candidate would be able to explore the on call that best suited their clinical skills.
