Medacs Healthcare is looking for a Consultant Gastroenterologist to work at a large NHS Trust based in northwest-central England.
Salary scale: £84,559 to £114,003 per annum depending on experience - 10 PA's
Hours: Full Time, 10 Programmed
Contract type: Fixed term for 12 months (Locum Consultant)
The successful applicant will be required to undertake outpatient clinics, endoscopy, in-patient ward rounds and participate in an out of hours upper GI bleed rota when this commences later in the year.
The post is offered on a full time or job share basis. The job plan is intended for a full-time appointment with an opportunity to modify this if the post is offered on any other basis.
The ongoing investment to increase Consultant numbers will enable the implementation of a dedicated gastroenterology in-reach service including an in-house upper GI bleed rota. There are no general medical on call duties expected from these posts.
The post holder will be provided with secretarial support, office facilities and a computer with appropriate IT support and Internet access.
The 10 PA job plan is split into 9 PAs of Direct Clinical Care and 1 PAs of Supporting Professional Activity per week. One core SPA is for private continuing professional development, appraisal and personal KPIs.
The Trust currently have 32 in-patient beds within Gastroenterology. On average there are 4 new admissions to the ward each day. There will be 2 Consultants on the ward at any one time, each with 16 patients under their care. Ward cover during annual leave, study leave, and professional leave will be provided by the other Consultant Gastroenterologists.
The successful candidate will be expected to be able to undertake diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. Endoscopy sessions will be undertaken in the Treatment Centre.
The successful candidate will be expected to perform 12 gastroscopies on an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy list, and an average of 5 colonoscopies on a colonoscopy list.
The appointee will take a share of the Consultant responsibilities within the Division which include:
- Being actively involved in the leadership, management and decision making of the Gastroenterology Department
- Being available during the working week so that medical and nursing staff can communicate and consult freely
- Sharing with Consultant colleagues the responsibility for providing clinical services for the local population
