Medacs Healthcare is currently looking for middle grade A&E doctors who are interested in applying for a Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine CESR post based at a large university hospital located in the East Midlands.

Salary scale: £45,124 to £77,519 for 10 PA's plus extra 2 PAs

Contract type: Fixed term for initially 12 months (extendable)

The post will commence with a fixed term Specialty Doctor contract in Emergency Medicine for 12 months. Subject to satisfactory progress at the end of this first year, successful candidates will have the option to progress to the CESR programme which we would expect to require 3-5 years for completion in most cases. The contract will be reviewed annually and extended on a mutually agreed basis, based on successful completion of required competencies at annual review.

The posts are intended to offer the clinician access to the support and training required to complete all aspects of the CESR process pending successful progression through the programme. It will be possible to provide specific secondment-style modules in the CESR programme, to address relevant educational and competency needs. Secondments offered include Anaesthetics, ITU, Acute Medicine and Paediatric Emergency Medicine.

The Trust are renowned for their training and support. The Consultant body has current FRCEM examiners as well as experience at the CESR application process. There will be a designated Consultant supervisor for the duration of the rotation, as well as a CESR mentor. From a clinical perspective these posts will participate in the 24 hour Emergency Department Middle Grade rota.

Duties of the post:

  • The contract is for 10 PAs per week (9 DCC and 1 SPA). Some SPA time is pre allocated (see section 'EDUCATION AND TRAINING'). There is the option to add on a further 2 PA DCC if requested.
  • The ED has 24/7 middle grade clinical cover and extended Consultant cover from 8am-2am 7 days per week. Post-holders in this grade will participate in the middle grade rota.
  • Duties within the Emergency Department will cover the whole range of clinical responsibility for both those patients seen in the Emergency Department and inpatients on our observation ward. Clinical duties will include taking a lead role in the management of acutely ill and trauma patients.
  • The post holder will be expected to prioritise and time-manage effectively according to the activity of the department and to utilise appropriately the available senior staff for advice.
  • Education is an important part of the role. The post holder will be fully involved in supporting the training of all levels of staff: medical; nursing; para-medical.
