Medacs Healthcare is currently recruiting for a Consultant in Ageing and Complex Medicine (Elderly medicine) position based in Manchester area.

Salary scale: £88,364 to £119,133 per annum depending on experience - 10 PA's

Hours: Full Time, 10 Programmed Activities

Contract type: Fixed term for 12 months (Locum Consultant)

The successful applicants will join the existing team and have sessional commitments in delivering community medicine (regular MDT meetings, community clinics/visits and Care home visits).They will have sessions in out-patient clinics (TIA, Gen Medicine/geriatric Med). Each of these clinics typically will have a mix of 4 new and 6 follow up patients. There will be responsibility for Elderly care in-patients (a 14 bedded ward), with bi weekly ward rounds, supported by the team of junior doctors.

There is commitment for night and weekend on call in general medicine.

Main duties of the post:

  • To enable running of a seamless service the successful applicants will be expected to cross cover for other services, when required. The post holder will share junior and middle grade staff with the rest of the Elderly Care team.
  • The post holder will be expected to fulfil an accepted clinical role of a Consultant in a specialty and play an active role in the day-to-day management of the service as well as that of the directorate.
  • The Consultant will be expected to play an active role in the continuing development of all aspects of clinical work of the department and the quality of the service and methods of auditing these. They will also be encouraged to contribute to planning matters that involve the Directorate.
  • The Trust has an active department of Clinical Audit. The General Medicine and Rehabilitation & Care of the Elderly directorates undertake multi-disciplinary audits one half day per month with presentations by junior medical staff, consultants and other therapists. They also take part in the monthly medical audit programme. Attendance to these sessions is compulsory.

Requirements:

  • Full GMC with licence to practice
  • Entry on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT.
  • MRCP (or equivalent).
  • Must show commitment to Development of Acute Medical services within the trust
  • Recent comprehensive experience in Geriatric Medicine.
