Specialist in Acute Medicine

Medacs Healthcare is currently recruiting for a Specialist in Acute Medicine role based in East Midlands.

Salary scale: £80,693 to £91,584 per annum depending on experience - 10 PA's

Hours: Full Time, 10 Programmed Activities

Contract type: Permanent

This is a new post designed to sit on the consultant tier after a period of induction and shadowing tailored to the needs of the successful candidate.

The Trust is looking for colleagues committed to Acute Medicine as their primary specialty but will support and explore opportunities for candidates wanting to develop or continue clinical interests in other specialties

The Trust has one of the busiest acute medical takes in the country, taking an average of 110 patients per day. Approximately 60% of patients are referred from the Emergency Department (ED) and 40% from Primary Care.

The post (based on 10 PAs) has 1 core SPA but with an additional 0.5 PA provided for the first 12 months to support induction and orientation. Additional SPA to support the pursuit of particular interests or specialty need.

The on call rota is Category B Low Frequency. Currently a typical 10 PA job plan would consist of approximately 6 weekends a year, 11 x 17-22.00 shifts, and 15 x 17-19.00 resident/non-resident overnight GIM on-calls.

Clinical duties of the job:

• Responsible Consultant for the management of patients admitted to Acute Medicine.
• Provision of reciprocal cover for periods of leave.
• Engage in the operational processes to optimise flow and navigation across Urgent and Emergency Care
• Provide senior clinical support to the MDT

Essential requirements:

• Full GMC registration & Licence To Practise
• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
• MRCP (UK)
• ALS
• 12 years minimum post graduate experience, at least four of which in Acute / General Medicine
• Experience working at minimum registrar level at a large acute hospital
