Medacs Healthcare is currently looking for an Occupational Therapist Band 5 to join a large university NHS Hospital based in Essex.

Type of contract: fixed term NHS contract for 12 months

Salary range: £25,655 to £31,534

The post holder will have responsibility for assessing and treating their own caseload of patients and maintaining associated records. As an autonomous practitioner they will be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, delegating as appropriate. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, caseload discussion and formal clinical supervision. Access to advice and support from a senior therapist is available if required, clinical work is routinely evaluated.

The post holder will be required to have a Bachelors degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Therapy, and will be required to have completed placements in all core clinical areas. Additionally, the post holder will need to be able to demonstrate basic computer literacy.

The postholder will be required to:

  • Comply with College of Occupational Therapy (COT) Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
  • Comply with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Standards of proficiency for occupational therapists, and Standards of conduct, performance and ethics
  • Work within trust clinical guidelines and to have a good working knowledge of national and local standards and monitor own and others quality of practice as appropriate.

Main Clinical Duties

  • Formulate and deliver an individual occupational therapy treatment plan based on a sound knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options using clinical assessment, reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment skills e.g. addressing occupational performance and skill deficits, enabling the patient in areas of self-maintenance, productivity and leisure
  • Formulate accurate prognoses and recommend best course of intervention, developing comprehensive discharge plans.
  • The occupational therapist will be required to assist patients who may be incontinent, vomiting or have a drip or catheter in place.
  • Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes if required.
  • To manage clinical risk within own patient caseload.


  • Member of British Association of Occupational Therapy
  • Registered with Health and Care Professions Council
  • Degree/Diploma in occupational therapy
  • Evidence of Continual Professional Development Portfolio
  • Driving license
