Medacs Healthcare is currently recruiting for a Locum Consultant Rheumatologist position based in Wales.

Salary: £98,897 per annum for 10 sessions

Hours: Full Time, 10 Programmed Activities

Contract type: Fixed term for 12 months (NHS Locum Consultant) or Permanent

The post holder will be joining a resilient happy Rheumatology Team and a dynamic, forward looking and innovative medical team. He/She will be expected to help develop rheumatology services provided by the Health Board, to complement the existing subspecialist interests.

Main duties:

  1. To participate and contribute to the planning and delivery of rheumatology services, including high quality, evidenced based and multidisciplinary care for rheumatology patients in an outpatient setting and provide support and advice for inpatients as needed.
  2. Work in accordance with BSR guidance to provide optimal care to patients with suspected and confirmed inflammatory arthritis.
  3. Participate in the outpatient management of general rheumatology patients.
  4. Supervision of junior doctors and providing clinical leadership to the Rheumatology team and working with colleagues in other departments.
  5. Ongoing education of medical students, junior and senior doctors, nursing staff and allied healthcare professionals.
  6. Engage with colleagues in Primary Care to optimise referral of patients to the rheumatology and osteoporosis services in accordance with the service referral prioritisation process.
  7. Commit towards personal development and engage with requirements for Continuing Professional Development, Appraisal and Revalidation.

The department typically undertakes around 10 inpatient cases, 660 new outpatient and 3730 outpatients' follow-up outpatients per annum. This includes new, follow up & monitoring patients seen by the rheumatology team.

The current post incorporates two DEXA reporting sessions. There is scope for further specialist interest work in Osteoporosis (with a supported DEXA scanner), Vasculitis & Lupus. We also provide an Early arthritis service and Axial Spondyloarthropathy service.

Requirements:

  • GMC registration with a license to practice
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification
  • Extensive experience in Rheumatology
