Medacs Healthcare is looking for a Consultant Geriatrician interested in joining an a large NHS hospital based in London.
Salary scale: £88,364 to £119,133 per annum depending on experience - 10 PA's
Hours: Full Time, 10 Programmed Activities
Contract type: Fixed term for 12 months (Locum Consultant) or Substantive
The appointee will work under the terms and conditions of the new consultant contract. He/she together with Consultant colleagues will be responsible for the management of older people who may have Frailty. The post holder should have a wide experience of Geriatric Medicine. The post holder will be encouraged and supported to develop and reshape the pathway and approach to Older People's care and to continue to develop specialist interests that synchronise with the departmental service.
The inpatient activity of the role will be supporting the care of the elderly bed base.
The outpatient activity: Two same day emergency care clinics (SDEC) and an OAST rapid access clinics per week (7 patient templates) providing rapid clinic assessment of older patients with frailty. The clinic runs in the close conjunction with acute teams in order to facilitate rapid and comprehensive clinical review.
The on-call activity: The appointee will join the other physicians in the Medical Division in contributing to the on call rota for acute general medicine.
A key part of the role will be working with community colleagues in order to provide more proactive, community-based management, to enable prevention of admissions for patients whose needs can be better met in the community, as well as improving care for those patients admitted to hospital with elderly trauma and undergoing elective surgery.

- Full GMC registration with a license to practice
- CCT in Geriatric Medicine (or within six months of CCT) or on the Specialist Register
- MRCP or equivalent
- Broad experience in Geriatric, Acute and General Medicine
- Teaching experience / willingness to teach medical, nursing & other staff
- Experience of audit / clinical research
