Medacs Healthcare is currently recruiting for a Locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine role based in North East England.

Salary package: £88,364 to £119,133 per annum depending on experience for 10 PA's plus relocation package up to £8,000 which includes 3 months' rent

Hours: Full Time, 10 Programmed Activities

Contract type: Fixed term for 12 months (NHS Locum Consultant)

The Trust is one of the largest integrated organisations in the country, providing hospital and community services to a population of over 650,000.

The Respiratory department provides specialist investigations and treatment for a wide range of Respiratory conditions with programmes for the management of asthma, care of COPD, diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer; sleep disordered breathing, pleural disease, interstitial lung disease and infections. There

are dedicated lists in pleural disease (including IPC), bronchoscopy and EBUS, with close links to cardiothoracic surgery. The Respiratory department runs MDTs in lung cancer and SPN, and links to the ILD regional MDT, regional home ventilation team and the regional difficult asthma service.

Successful candidates will join a team of 11 respiratory consultants and 1 SAS doctor across our two acute sites. Post holders will undertake acute work and outpatient clinics at their main base site and also cover clinics at one of their community hospitals. Clinics are general respiratory clinics and cancer clinics. There are also opportunities for specialist clinics for those wanting to develop a subspecialist interest.

The ward and RSU are covered via a weekly specialty rota (in -hours only) and the post holder will take part in the medical on-call rota on the Acute Medical Unit alongside physician colleagues and acute care physicians.

Applicants wishing to combine clinical work with a research or educational career will be supported with opportunities for academic roles available.

In-patient care is delivered on a dedicated respiratory ward of 30 beds including a separate 8 bedded Acute Respiratory Unit, accommodating NIV, high flow nasal oxygen and in-patient pleural procedures soon to be opened. All in-patients are looked after by a respiratory physician of the week model currently 1:6 rotation.

Job Plan:

Clinic 3.0 PA, Ward based activity 2.0 PA, SPA 2.5 PA, MDT 0.5 PA, Bronchoscopy 0.5 PA, Admin 1.5 PA each week. In addition, there is a payment of 1.25 PA for full participation in the acute medicine on call.

On call commitment:

The post includes a commitment to being on-call providing emergency cover for acute general medical take. The post holder will also be expected to take part in an unselected medical on call, presently working a 1:12 rota for weekdays, 1:17 weekends (Sat and Sunday) with an option to split.

Requirements:

  • GMC registered with a license to practice.
  • MRCP or equivalent.
  • To be on the specialist register in Respiratory Medicine on the date of interview (or within 6 months of entry).
  • Must have suitable training and extensive experience in Respiratory medicine.
