Consultant Cardiologist

Medacs Healthcare is currently recruiting for a Locum Consultant in Cardiology role based in North East England.

Salary package: £88,364 to £119,133 per annum depending on experience for 10 PA's plus relocation package up to £8,000 which includes 3 months' rent

Hours: Full Time, 10 Programmed Activities

Contract type: Fixed term for 12 months (NHS Locum Consultant)

The Trust is seeking to expand the cardiology department to meet the increasing demand for modern and comprehensive care to a population of around 600 000 in an area with a high prevalence of heart disease. The post-holder will be expected to provide in-patient and outpatient general cardiology services as well as a special interest to develop and expand a range of services.

Research, development of special interests, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching or the development of non-clinical roles will be encouraged and supported.

DUTIES OF THE POST

• Contribution to acute day-time cardiology at site base, on rotation with the existing cardiologists and trust specialists, covering the acute cardiac unit (8 beds on each site) cardiology step-down beds and cardiology referrals from AMU and other wards/departments. Both sites operate a "cardiologist of the day" model who reviews the ACU patients, new admissions and consults. They may be supported on some days by another colleague, depending on the colleague's timetable. Clinics and specialist sessions are not timetabled on the days covering on-call duties.
• Participation in the weekend ward round rota (currently 6 hrs on each of Saturday and Sunday, 1 weekend in 7). Over time as additional Consultant Cardiologists join the service this will move to covering each site on a Saturday and Sunday. The cardiologist presently spends 1 day of the weekend on each site. They do not travel between the sites on the same day. 0.75 PAs is payable for participation in the rota at the current level. There is no on-call from home.
• Management of cardiology inpatients.
• Provision of outpatient clinics.
• Development and pursuit of specialist interest

There is no current commitment to the acute medical rota.

Requirements:

• GMC registered with a license to practice.
• MRCP or equivalent.
• To be on the specialist register in Cardiology on the date of interview (or within 6 months of entry).
• Must have suitable training and extensive experience in Cardiology.
