Sir Keith Pearson’s review of revalidation ‘Taking Revalidation Forward’ has just been published, you can download a copy here.
The report undertook a full review of the revalidation system in England since its introduction in December 2012, looking at the impact of revalidation to date and making recommendations on how to take revalidation forward.
The findings are wide and varied, in general concluding that while Revalidation is now settling in and beginning to have an impact on clinical practice, professional behaviour and patient safety, it is still relatively new and highlights some difficulties and challenges the system faces.
The media chose to focus on ‘locum doctors being the ‘weak-link’ in doctors performance checks’ with some stating that ‘locum agencies are also failing to carry out regular appraisals needed to effectively judge whether licences should be renewed’. You can read the BBC article here.
