Our Clinical Insourcing Team

Our clinical leads oversee all insourcing contracts within their specialist fields, safeguarding clinical standards and lending their expertise and experience to the efficient design of clinical pathways and policies, in line with NHS best practice.  They are supported by a broad team of operational leads, highly experienced in workforce planning and waiting list management.

Martin Watts

Director of Operations - Clinical Insourcing

Martin has over 20 years of experience in the surgical healthcare sector, including 15 years in senior NHS positions, managing operations for three trusts with significant national surgical remits. As one of the foremost experts in clinical insourcing, Martin’s reputation for transforming waiting list management is well known. He regularly speaks at industry events and his advice is frequently sought by NHS Trust Executives and clinicians.

Sam Sangal

Surgical Director & Clinical Lead for General Surgery

Sam is a Consultant Laparoscopic and Robotic Colorectal Surgeon with over 12 years of NHS consultant experience. As Clinical Lead for UHL he coordinates the delivery of elective and emergency surgical procedures for several large hospitals in the Midlands region.  Sam is also a Clinical Tutor for the University of Leicester, a member of the Board of Examiners for the Royal College of Surgeons and a member of the NHS East Midlands Cancer Advisory Group.

Mick Whitley

Group Commercial Director

Mick began his career as a nurse before moving into the healthcare staffing industry and building over 20 years of experience with several leading international healthcare recruitment and workforce brands. Now a renowned industry expert, Mick works closely with government bodies, regulators and frameworks. His frontline experience continues to shape his leadership style, with patient needs placed firmly at the heart of all services.

Dr June Picton

Medical Director and Responsible Officer

Dr June Picton has over 40 years of NHS experience in senior management roles, as a Medical Director and GP. For the past 10 years, she has guided and directed Medacs Clinical Governance and independent Revalidation teams, providing referrals to the GMC where appropriate. She is well-respected in her field, continually striving for clinical professionalism and honesty and driving the provision of the safest and highest quality standards of patient care.

Anne Anderson

Director of Nursing and Clinical Governance

Anne is a dually qualified (RGN, RMN) nursing graduate (MSc) with 21 years of nursing and 10 years of senior management experience. Anne is committed to ensuring all staff and services provided by Medacs meet the highest standards in terms of quality, clinical governance and patient safety. She regularly oversees surgical insourcing teams in action and has overall responsibility for incident management and safety reviews.  Anne is also a recognised champion for Diversity and Inclusion and was a finalist for a Nursing Times award for her efforts to protect key workers from discrimination during the pandemic.

Kathrine Howarth

Head of Commercials Insourcing

Kathrine has over 15 years of NHS operational management, clinical coding and data quality management experience, gained across six different NHS trusts. She pioneered the end-to-end automation of clinical coding in the NHS to reduce pressures in coding departments and improve accuracy of data entry for epidemiological studies and trust remuneration. She regularly speaks at and chairs clinical coding conferences and advises Trusts on how to automate clinical coding.

Megan Cummings

Head of Operations - Insourcing

Megan has over 10 years of experience in the surgical healthcare sector, including 8 years in NHS positions, managing services and coordinating waiting lists for Orthopaedics departments. Latterly Megan has managed major insourcing projects and is a Level 7 member of the Chartered Management Institute, with an MBA and proven skills in senior leadership and strategic management.

Claire Leech

Business Development Manager

With over 9 years of experience in the healthcare sector, Claire is skilled at developing strategic partnerships with NHS Trusts to drive improved outcomes for patients and services. Since joining Medacs, Claire has rapidly developed a broad knowledge of the complexities of clinical insourcing contracts and frameworks and can provide the support our prospective customers need to resolve their specific waiting list challenges.
