Global Medics is partnering with a vibrant and diverse Local Health District in New South Wales (situated close to Sydney) to recruit a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist.

The District encompasses metropolitan, semi‑rural, and rural communities, offering an exceptional blend of clinical challenge, lifestyle, and professional growth opportunities. Situated in a stunning region known for its breathtaking landscapes, outdoor activities and reach cultural heritage.

The hospital is a major public teaching hospital and key tertiary referral centre. It provides inpatient psychiatric care and is closely integrated with the district's extensive community mental health network, enabling seamless care pathways for adults, older persons, young people, and individuals with complex needs. The campus includes specialised units such as a Neonatal ICU, Cancer Care Centre, Diabetes Service, and Family Care Centre, allowing psychiatrists to collaborate on care for patients with various physical and mental health conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Specialist assessment & treatment: Provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and evidence‑based treatment for complex youth mental health presentations such as mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, developmental conditions, and eating disorders.
  • Family‑inclusive care: Work closely with parents and carers, using hospital's family‑friendly facilities-including carers' suites and therapeutic spaces-to support recovery and shared decision‑making.
  • Multidisciplinary leadership: Lead MDT meetings, supervise junior doctors, and contribute to a collaborative, high‑performing CAMHS team.
  • Coordination across services: Provide consultation‑liaison support to the Emergency Department and Triage & Assessment Centre, and ensure smooth transitions between inpatient, community, and school‑based services.
  • Service development & governance: Contribute to the continued development of the hospital's new CAMHS unit and participate in quality improvement, governance, teaching, and research activities.

This role offers the opportunity to shape a modern, youth‑focused service in a brand‑new, purpose‑designed facility, supporting young people and families at moments of greatest need.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Coming from the UK: Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), awarded under any RCPsych curriculum from August 2007 to date following satisfactory completion of a General Medical Council or Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board approved specialty training program in psychiatry in the United Kingdom.
  • Other Countries - Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent
  • Demonstrated clinical skills and experience working with mental health problems in Adult Mental Health
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to work effectively as part of multi-disciplinary team
