Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology
Location: South East
Salary: £105,504 - £139,882 per annum (pro rata where applicable)
Role Overview: Medacs is recruiting for a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology. This role involves supporting diabetes and endocrinology services, collaborating with other physicians, and providing high standards of care. The successful candidate will also participate in the acute general medicine take and provide consultant input to the acute take.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support diabetes and endocrinology services.
- Collaborate with other Diabetes and Endocrinology physicians to share facilities and provide continuity of care.
- Hold clinics at various locations.
- Support primary care in managing diabetic patients.
- Liaise with GPs and participate in education programs for practice staff.
- Respond to email requests from GPs for clinical advice.
- Work closely with community-based specialist nurses.
- Share junior staff and ensure optimal training opportunities.
- Participate in the acute general medicine take and provide consultant input to the acute take.
- Ensure rapid acute medical assessment during on-call afternoons.
Commitments:
- Comply with GMC guidance, clinical risk management processes, and infection control policies.
- Audit clinical outcomes, report clinical incidents, and alert to risks.
- Participate in annual appraisal and foster good team relationships.
- Communicate effectively with all medical and service departments.
- Undertake non-emergency work during premium time as required.
- Respond to patient complaints in line with the complaints policy.
- Support financial sustainability by collaborating on budget issues.
- Provide eight weeks' notice of annual and study leave.
Teaching:
- Participate in teaching and supervising junior staff.
- Recruit junior staff and supervise their education, including educational contracts, regular appraisal, study leave, annual leave, and rotas.
- Enrol on an approved educational supervisor accreditation course if newly appointed.
Research:
- Take on the role of Principal Investigator with full training and support.

Person Specification:
Essential:
- MRCP.
- Full GMC Registration.
- CCST Specialist Registration or will obtain within 6 months of interview date.
- Minimum of English Level 2 (GCSE grade C or equivalent), ILETS, or graduate of a UK Medical School.
Desirable:
- Specialty-specific qualifications.
Skills and Experience:
- Experience in Endocrinology, diabetes, and general medicine.
Clinical Governance:
- Audit participation.
- Complaint management.
- RCA, Sis, SJR.
Personal/Professional Attributes:
- Uphold and model the Trust values.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to travel effectively between sites.
