Global Medics is partnering with the Northern New South Wales Local Health District to recruit a Staff Specialist / Consultant Psychiatrist to work across both the Acute Care Services (ACS) and Mental Health Emergency Care (MHEC). The role is a 50/50 split between the two areas.

The role is based in Tweed, nestled between beautiful beaches and lush hinterland of the border ranges. Here, rainforest meets ocean, with in-between diversions ranging from hiking and cruising to surfing and kayaking. The busy border town of Tweed Heads - the area's hub - sits within the Southern Hemisphere's largest volcanic caldera. The fertile soil grows all manner of tropical fruits and vegetables, which restaurants and cafes serve alongside plentiful ocean-fresh seafood.

Key Responsibilities for the role:

  • Leads the multidisciplinary team to provide specialist psychiatric services to patients
  • Promotes patient safety and quality of care. Provides leadership, orientation, training, supervision and education, where relevant, for doctors in training, Health Service Medical Practitioners and other health workers
  • Works within the scope of clinical practice as defined and recommended by the LHD

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Coming from the UK - Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), awarded under any RCPsych curriculum from August 2007 to date following satisfactory completion of a General Medical Council or Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board approved specialty training program in psychiatry in the United Kingdom.
  • Other Countries - Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent
  • Demonstrated clinical skills and experience working with mental health problems in Adult Mental Health
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to work effectively as part of multi-disciplinary team
