An exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed and enthusiastic Consultant Haematologist to join the established Haematology team at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary (DGRI). This role offers the chance to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred haematology care within a modern, purpose‑built hospital, while enjoying exceptional work‑life balance in one of Scotland's most scenic regions.


The successful candidate will contribute to a comprehensive Clinical and Laboratory Haematology service, supporting both malignant and non‑malignant haematology, with scope to develop a sub‑specialist interest aligned to personal expertise and service needs.

About the Role

As a Consultant Haematologist at NHS Dumfries and Galloway, you will work as part of a supportive and close‑knit consultant team, supported by Clinical Nurse Specialists, an SAS doctor, experienced laboratory staff and strong administrative support.
The post combines outpatient‑focused clinical work with laboratory oversight and inpatient care, offering a broad and rewarding consultant role within a District General Hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consultant‑level care for haematology inpatients and outpatients
  • Deliver specialist haematology clinics, including new patient, follow‑up and chemotherapy clinics
  • Clinical leadership and advisory input to the Haematology Laboratory and Blood Transfusion Service
  • Participate in local and regional MDTs, including West of Scotland network MDTs (via video link)
  • Contribute to the 1:3 consultant on‑call rota (with prospective cover)
  • Supervise and support junior doctors, specialty doctors and multidisciplinary colleagues
  • Participate in clinical governance, audit, service development and GIRFT initiatives
  • Engage in teaching and educational supervision for medical students and trainees

What We're Looking For
Essential

  • MBBS (or equivalent medical degree)
  • Full GMC registration with licence to practise
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months of CCT/CESR)
  • Right to work in the UK
  • DBS/PVG check (or willingness to complete)
  • Excellent communication and teamworking skills
