Senior Quality & Patient Safety Consultant (Mental Health)

Job Title: Registered Mental Health Nurse - Band 7/8

Location: East Midlands

Contract Type: Locum (long term contract) - parttime hours

Salary: £40-£52 per hour (depending on shift pattern)

About You:

Are you an experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse (Band 7+) looking for a senior, non‑clinical consultancy role? We are seeking a confident and credible RMN with strong experience in quality improvement, patient safety, governance or incident learning to support an NHS inpatient mental health service.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys analysing complex information, working autonomously across wards, and influencing senior leaders to drive meaningful service improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct structured ward walk‑throughs using an established quality and safety framework

  • Collect and synthesise qualitative and quantitative intelligence from multiple sources
  • Observe clinical environments, safety processes and team functioning
  • Triangulate data from incidents, complaints, patient experience and staff insight
  • Identify themes, risks and early warning signs not always visible in formal reporting
  • Apply PSIRF principles to support learning‑focused, non‑punitive safety approaches
  • Contribute expert insight into serious incident themes and reduction strategies
  • Present clear, balanced findings to senior leaders and governance forums
  • Work collaboratively with services to agree and implement improvement actions
  • Escalate concerns appropriately using professional judgement

Essential Qualifications:

We are looking for an experienced RMN with:

  • Current NMC registration as a Registered Mental Health Nurse

  • Significant senior clinical experience (typically Band 7 or above)
  • Demonstrable experience in quality improvement, patient safety or governance
  • Ability to analyse complex information and identify hidden risks

Benefits:

  • Competitive rates up to £52 per hour

  • Travel and accommodation fully covered
  • Long‑term contract with immediate start
  • Opportunity to work at senior level across inpatient services
  • Supportive and collaborative working environment
  • Ability to block‑book and plan your schedule in advance

Why Choose Us:

We are a friendly, supportive and highly responsive team committed to finding you roles that balance professional development with quality of life. We offer 24/7 support, ensuring you always have someone available when you need it most.

If you are looking for a senior consultancy role where you can make a genuine impact on patient safety and service quality, we would love to hear from you.
