Locum Consultant Psychiatrist - Old Age Mental Health

Location: Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board
Rate: £105 - £120.00 per hour (PAYE)
Contract Type: Locum (Full-Time, Monday to Friday, 9:00am-5:30pm with 30-minute unpaid break)
Start Date: ASAP - Initial 3-month contract

Shifts: This post is based with the Old Age Team in Hergest Unit, Gwynedd Hospital with timetabled activity including memory, Old Age Community and Inpatient reviews. There is another part-time consultant in the area who covers Nursing Home Care reviews/visits.

Role Overview

As a Locum Consultant Psychiatrist, you will work within multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality care to adults with complex mental health needs. Responsibilities include:

• Conducting psychiatric assessments and reviews
• Leading treatment planning and clinical decision-making
• Supporting junior medical staff and MDTs
• Liaising with community services and external partners

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree
• Full GMC registration with licence to practise
• Section 12/Section 22 and Approved/Responsible Clinician status (or eligibility)
• Current DBS or PVG check (or willingness to undergo one)
• Experience in Old Age mental health settings
• UK Right to Work
• Flexible, collaborative, and patient-focused approach

Desirable:

• CCT in Psychiatry (or within 6 months of achieving it)
