Because they operate as a specialist mental health trust, they frequently recruit Registered Mental Health Nurses (RMNs) to work across their inpatient wards, community teams, and crisis services.

It is worth noting that while Pennine Care runs the mental health units and psychiatric departments, many of these are located on larger hospital campuses operated by neighboring acute trusts.

Where RMNs Work: Associated Hospitals and Units

As an RMN at Pennine Care, you could be deployed at several key hospital sites and dedicated units across Bury, Rochdale, Oldham, Stockport, and Tameside:

• Tameside General Hospital (Mental Health Unit): Located in Ashton-under-Lyne, hosting adult acute and older people's mental health services.
• Stepping Hill Hospital (Department of Psychiatry): Located in Stockport, delivering inpatient psychiatric care and older adult mental health services.
• Royal Oldham Hospital (Mental Health Services): Pennine Care runs the dedicated adult and psychological medicine wings on this site.
• Fairfield General Hospital (Mental Health Unit): Located in Bury, offering inpatient and community liaison psychiatric services.
• Birch Hill Hospital: A dedicated site in Rochdale housing mental health units and specialized care facilities.
• Stansfield Place: A forensic and high-support rehabilitation unit located in Rochdale.

Core RMN Requirements for Pennine Care

The Trust looks for a blend of formal qualifications, strict compliance checks, and practical clinical skills:

1. Qualifications & Professional Registration

• NMC Registration: A valid and current professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Mental Health Nurse.
• Education: A professional qualification/degree in Mental Health Nursing. Evidence of ongoing Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is required.
• Mentorship: Completion of (or a willingness to undertake) Practice Assessor/Supervisor training to support student nurses and junior staff.

2. Clinical Skills & Experience

• Risk Assessment & Management: Ability to conduct comprehensive clinical risk assessments and formulate robust, person-centered care and safety plans.
• Crisis & De-escalation: Strong skills in defusing conflict and utilizing least-restrictive practices when dealing with distressed, agitated, or aggressive service users.
• Multidisciplinary Working: Experience collaborating within a multidisciplinary team (MDT) including psychiatrists, social workers, occupational therapists, and community groups.
• Legislation Knowledge: Sound understanding and practical application of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and safeguarding adult/children procedures.
