Swansea Bay University Health Board is seeking a Locum Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join a friendly and established team supporting patients across Singleton Hospital, the South West Wales Cancer Centre and the wider specialist palliative care service. This role offers the opportunity to work across hospital-based palliative care, cancer services and multidisciplinary teams, with strong links to education, research and service development.

About the Role

As a Locum Consultant in Palliative Medicine, you will provide specialist palliative care support primarily within Singleton Hospital and the South West Wales Cancer Centre. You will work closely with multidisciplinary colleagues to provide expert symptom control, support patients and families, and contribute to the development of high-quality palliative care services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist palliative medicine services across hospital-based and cancer care pathways
  • Support multidisciplinary team working and site-specific Cancer MDTs
  • Contribute to teaching, clinical governance, audit and service development initiatives

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Specialist Register entry in Palliative Medicine, or CCT anticipated within 6 months
  • Excellent communication and multidisciplinary team working skills
  • Commitment to teaching, quality improvement and patient-centred care

Desirable:

  • Further relevant postgraduate qualifications
  • Teaching or medical education experience
  • Research, audit or service improvement experience
  • Experience developing clinical services and pathways

Based at Singleton Hospital in Swansea, home to the South West Wales Cancer Centre, serving a population of more than 900,000 people across the region. The service benefits from strong academic links with Swansea University and a well-established specialist palliative care network.
