What does a Nurse Functional Assessor do?

As a Nurse Functional Assessor, you'll meet people who've applied for Personal Independence Payment (PIP), or who've been referred through the Government's Health Advisory Assessment Services.

The role focuses on understanding how a person’s health condition or disability affects their ability to manage everyday activities. You'll review the information they provide, consider medical evidence, gather further detail and write a personalised report that reflects their functional ability and meets Department for Work and Pensions standards.

It is a clinical role, but the focus is on assessment, analysis and report writing rather than treatment or ongoing care.

Who Can Apply?

NMC registration
Strong communication and IT skills
Confidence in report writing
