Hybrid Physio & OT Jobs | Clinical Assessor Roles

Smiling Occupational Therapist who works as a PIP Functional Assessor

Use your Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy expertise in a new way, as a Clinical Assessor with Medacs Healthcare.

Are you a Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist thinking about your next step? As a PIP Functional Assessor, you will use your clinical reasoning to carry out structured assessments for people applying for Personal Independence Payment (PIP).

You will explore how their condition affects everyday life and produce a clear, evidence-based report to support the Department for Work and Pensions in their decision making.

With full training, ongoing support and a clear path for development, it is a role where you can continue to use your clinical reasoning in a different way.

What Does A Clinical Assessor Do?

As a Clinical Assessor, you'll meet people who've applied for Personal Independence Payment (PIP), or who've been referred through the Government's Health Advisory Assessment Services.

The role focuses on understanding how a person's health condition or disability affects their ability to manage everyday activities. You'll review the information they provide, consider medical evidence, gather further detail and write a personalised report that reflects their functional ability and meets Department for Work and Pensions standards.

It is a clinical role, but the focus is on assessment, analysis and report writing rather than hands-on treatment or ongoing care.

Why This Role Works Well For Physiotherapists And OTs

For Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists, this role draws heavily on clinical reasoning, observation and functional thinking.

A large part of the assessment is understanding someone's lived experience, asking the right questions and building a full picture of how their condition affects everyday life.

For many AHPs, it offers:

  • A more structured way of working
  • Continued use of clinical reasoning
  • A move away from hands-on caseloads while staying clinical
