What Does A PIP
Functional Assessor Do?
As a PIP Functional Assessor, you’ll carry out telephone and video assessments with people applying for Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
You’ll use your clinical knowledge and experience to understand how a person’s health condition or disability affects their everyday life. This includes reviewing medical evidence, gathering information during the assessment and completing a personalised report based on your findings.
This isn’t a treatment role, but you’ll continue to use many of the skills you’ve developed throughout your clinical career, including communication, assessment, clinical reasoning and report writing.
Who Can Apply?
To join our team as a PIP Functional Assessor, you’ll need to be registered with either the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) or the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), with at least one year of UK clinical experience.
Eligible professions include:
NMC:
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN)
- Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD)
- District Nurse (SPQDN)
HCPC:
- Paramedic
- Physiotherapist
- Occupational Therapist
You must live and work in the UK and have the right to work here, as we're not able to offer visa sponsorship for these roles.
Once you've successfully completed your six-month probation, we'll reimburse your NMC or HCPC registration fee. Terms and conditions apply.

About The Recruitment Process
Our recruitment process is designed to help you understand the role and decide whether it’s the right fit for you.
Following an initial pre-screen, you’ll be invited to complete a typing test and an online clinical scenario. This helps us understand your skills and experience while also giving you a better understanding of the role.
If successful, you'll be invited to interview with a member of the team. It's an opportunity for us to learn more about your clinical background and for you to find out more about the role and ask any questions you may have.
If you're offered the role, you'll receive a formal offer and confirmed start date before beginning the compliance and onboarding process.
Training, Support And Development
You'll receive full training before carrying out assessments independently.
Training includes:
- A structured induction programme
- Full training for the role
- Support with assessments and report writing
- Ongoing clinical guidance
- Regular feedback and development opportunities
You'll continue to receive support from experienced colleagues as you build your knowledge and experience in the role.
What Does Remote Working Look Like?
Once you’ve completed your induction and training, you’ll work remotely from home, carrying out telephone and video assessments and completing reports.
Although you'll be working from home, you'll still be part of a wider clinical team and receive ongoing support. You'll have regular contact with colleagues and managers, so while you may be working remotely, you're never working in isolation
The role has structured working hours, with no evening, weekend or bank holiday working. Remote working doesn’t mean choosing your own hours, so you’ll need to follow your agreed working pattern.

You’ll work remotely from home once you’ve completed your induction and training. You’ll need to attend your induction day in Leeds before moving to remote working.
No. Many of the healthcare professionals who join us have never worked as a Functional Assessor before. Full training and ongoing support are provided.
You’ll carry out telephone and video assessments. You’ll review the information available, speak with the individual about how their condition affects their everyday life and write a personalised report based on what you learn.
No. You won’t provide treatment or ongoing patient care. The role focuses on assessment, reviewing evidence, clinical reasoning and report writing.
Yes. We welcome applications from eligible Nurses, Paramedics, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists who meet the registration and UK clinical experience requirements.
Hybrid Opportunities Available
In addition to our remote roles, we also offer hybrid working opportunities across Yorkshire and the North East of England. Hybrid roles typically involve spending three days in the office and two days working from home, helping you stay connected with your team while reducing your commute.
