Are you a knowledgeable Registered General Nurse (RGN) with recent NHS experience? Are you a natural problem solver who enjoys working as part of a team of medical professionals? Then a role as an RGN within a large hospital trust may be just what you are looking for.

As an agency RGN, your working day will be varied as you will be caring for a wide range of patients. This may involve observing patients who are severely unwell or terminally ill, or providing long-term care to patients with health conditions such as heart disease or diabetes. You could be requested to support with emergency admissions, planned admissions and post-surgery patients and their families, communicating clinical information effectively.

You will often be the first point of contact for patients on wards, reassuring and supporting them – and alerting your colleagues if something isn’t right.

Your daily tasks may include taking blood or inserting and maintaining IV lines, making sure patients receive their medication. You could also assist with dressing and cleaning wounds, and helping with personal care. Your calm nature and methodical approach will help make sure patients feel safe in your hands.

RGNs also play a key role in ensuring the efficient running of wards and departments. You will safely identify, prepare, check, and assemble equipment required for relevant operating lists, write care plans, perform assessments, make referrals and organise admissions and discharges to and from wards.

At Medacs, we have plenty of flexible shift opportunities for RGNs (both medical and surgical nurses) to work across the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust at Royal Preston Hospital, and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital.

With a variety of wards and departments – including General Medicine and General Surgery, Care of the Elderly, Gastroenterology, Orthopaedics, Medical Admissions Unit (MAU), Neurosurgery, Cath Labs and Step-Down facilities – joining a team of friendly, dedicated professionals will enable you to develop and consolidate your nursing skills in a range of settings.
