Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department / A&E
Band: Band 5 (NHS Agenda for Change)
Location: North Wales (Ysbyty Gwynedd, Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, or Wrexham Maelor Hospital)
Reports To: Ward Manager / Senior Sister / Charge Nurse
Accountable To: Directorate Nurse Manager
The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based nursing care within the fast-paced environment of the Emergency Department. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team (MDT), you will ensure the delivery of high-quality, compassionate, and safe care to patients presenting with acute illnesses and trauma, supporting them and their families through critical situations.
Rapid Assessment & Triage: Efficiently triage, assess, and prioritize incoming patients based on the clinical severity of their injury or illness.
Acute Interventions: Stabilize and manage acutely unwell or traumatized patients using highly developed clinical skills specific to Emergency Care (e.g., cannulation, venepuncture, ECG recording, wound care, and managing intravenous therapies).
Care Planning: Develop, implement, and continuously evaluate dynamic, evidence-based care plans tailored to individual patient needs.
Resuscitation & Stabilization: Assist in the resuscitation area under the direction of the senior nursing and medical teams.
Patient Advocacy: Act as a dedicated advocate for patients, ensuring their privacy, dignity, and choices are respected at all times.
2. Communication & Collaboration
MDT Liaison: Work collaboratively with emergency doctors, advanced nurse practitioners (ANPs), allied health professionals, and social care teams to ensure seamless patient flow.
Handovers & Documentation: Maintain highly accurate, clear, and contemporaneous electronic and paper patient records in line with NMC standards and legal frameworks.
Family Support: Provide empathetic, clear communication to anxious relatives and carers during stressful or crisis situations.
Departmental Safety: Participate in the day-to-day organization and safety of the department, reporting incidents or risks immediately in line with BCUHB Clinical Governance.
Mentorship: Supervise, support, and assess student nurses, healthcare support workers (HCSWs), and junior staff members.
Resource Management: Ensure the appropriate use and maintenance of specialized emergency medical equipment.
Shift Pattern: Internal rotation covering a full 24/7 service, including days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
